Occupy Wall Street

It really is quite sad that this is part of my Flashback Series, a series of stories that are not properly covered by the main stream media, but it seems that there is some kind of media blackout on the topic. A Google News search on the topic only turns up 47 results (for some reason, it says there are over 700 results but once you get to page 5 the number drops to 47), some of which are not even relevant (they contain the the words separately in the article) or are even in different languages. It is disheartening to see that a protest with an estimated number of 50,000 protesters (early in the day) isn't even covered.

The most mainstream report by CBS New York explained that people are protesting the governments lack of solutions to our economic problems as well as the financial sector's role in our government. In some not-so-nice words, they are fed up with our corrupt government bailing out the rich while the rest of us labor away to fund their luxurious lives.

But not only are people fed up with the government, they want an end to corporate greed. Large corporations will do anything to protect the amount of money they make even if that means putting everyone into poverty. These protesters realize that there is more to life than making money at the expense of everyone else.

The protest was very ordered and peaceful but police kept a watchful eye on the situation. They even deployed their mobile surveillance tower and as one tweet from the area said,

ALERT: HORSIE COPS ARRIVED #TakeWallStreet & #OccupyWallStreet #Sep17

The same person had previously tweeted:

The police ask to speak to the leader. We told them that there is no leader. They didnt understand. #TakeWallStreet #OccupyWallStreet #Sep17

Shame on the media

Twitter was the primary way news got out about the protest. The protest was so successful that #TakeWallStreet was trending on Twitter. People all across the country knew about the protest and with that large of a protest there is no way the media didn't know about it. Shame on them for not reporting it. They are part of the overall corruption scheme and soon enough people will occupy the media too. Main stream media is already being replaced by people powered news. In fact, you are reading people powered news right now. They will be replaced by social networking websites like Twitter.

This protest is expected to last throughout today as well and possibly longer. We will see if the media reports on it but the chances of that seems rather low. Protests are underway and the internal media is already neglecting it - sounds a lot like some other well known protests like those in Egypt. We will get the truth out. You can not silence all of us.
